Coco Fusco in group show: Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art at Grey Art Gallery, NY

Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art is the first exhibition to survey over fifty years of performance art by visual artists of African descent from the United States and the Caribbean. Black performance has generally been associated with music, theater, dance, and popular culture. While the artists in Radical Presence draw on these disciplines, here their work is considered in relation to the visual arts. The show begins with examples dating from Fluxus—a loose international network of artists from the 1960s and ’70s—and Conceptual art of the same period, and continues up to the present day.

Coco Fusco Among Winners of 2013 Absolut Art Awards

Renata Lucas and Coco Fusco have been announced as the winners of the 2013 Absolut Art Award, in Stockholm, by Absolut Art Award Jury President Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev.

New York-based interdisciplinary artist, writer and lecturer Coco Fusco receives the €20,000 cash prize for Art writing, plus up to €25,000 towards the publication and distribution of a new book, in collaboration with a leading publishing house.

This is the first year that the prize, established in 2009, has been presented both for Art Work and Art Writing.

Coco Fusco- Performance artist talks about motherhood

It seems like once or twice a year the Internet experiences a gender studies firestorm in the form of a lengthy article asking a seemingly simple question: Can women really have it all? On a bright June afternoon in a Clinton Hill neighborhood park, Coco Fusco — performance artist and an associate professor of Fine Arts at Parsons The New School for Design — is just one of the sea of moms juggling the child portion of “it all” that day. Her son Aurelio bounces from wooden table to table, eagerly awaiting his friends’ arrival at his seventh birthday party, as Fusco cuts slices of watermelon and opens up 12-packs of bottled water to keep the expected 15-20 parents and kids cool in the blazing sun.
