Cuban O! Major Exhibit of Cuban Art at Northrup King Building, Minneapolis

In a first-of-its-kind exhibit for the Twin Cities, a wide-ranging exhibit of contemporary Cuban art by more than a dozen internationally-recognized Cuban artists will be displayed from October 1st through October 4th in northeast Minneapolis.

The exhibit, consisting of dozens of works and called Cuban O!, is curated by Cuban artist Ciro Quintana, who has been recognized as one of the most well-known and influential figures in Cuban art over the last thirty years. Creator of Pure Group, Quintana is part of a legendary generation of artists that emerged in Cuba in the early 80s and who are responsible for a revolution in Cuban Art.

Art from the following artists will be represented: Gustavo Acosta; Jairo Alfonzo; Kenia Alguiñao; Nestor Arena; Henry Ballate; Jose Bedia; Ariel Cabrera; Consuelo Castañeda; Tomas Esson; Carlos Estevez; Adrian Morales; Ciro Quintana; Pedro Vizcaino.

Ramis Barquet Gallery is pleased to present IMPERIALISMO 2011, our first exhibition devoted to the flags of Tomás Esson. This will be the artist’s second solo show at the gallery.

Tomás Esson is one of the most important and influential contemporary Cuban painters. A leading figure in the storied 80s Generation, his work forms part of a Cuban pictorial tradition with links to artists including Wifredo Lam, Amelia Peláez and René Portocarrero. Yet over the last 25 years, trawling the great reservoir of libido, Esson has in his vast body of work developed a unique, highly charged and often controversial visual language that extends beyond his origins and is uniquely his own.

Gonzales is director of the freshly minted Arte Puro Gallery opening this Friday night at the iconic Miami Beach landmark. She says that the NADA Art Fair has put the Deauville on the map as a viable art destination in recent years and that the hotel has the potential to draw art lovers not only during Basel, but year round.
